‘Would walk into Man Utd side’ – Solskjaer told why West Ham duo are transfer musts
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been told of the two West Ham United players who are comfortably get into their side, with one observer suggesting Manchester United could do far worse than trying to sign the duo.
Declan Rice and Tomas Soucek have both become cornerstones of the Hammers’ midfield. The pair excelled together last season as David Moyes’ side finished sixth to bring Europa League football to the club.
And despite their summer exerts at Euro 2020, Rice and Soucek are going from strength to strength in the engine room.
Their solid start to the season, however, will face the ultimate test on Sunday when Manchester United are the visitors.
United themselves have done well so far this season but getting the best of Rice and Soucek could play a key part at the London Stadium. Our weekly Premier League Predictions feature is, however, expecting a classic.
Indeed, the Red Devils’ interest in Rice is well documented. Rated at at least £80m, Rice would be the obvious upgrade in their midfield to the likes of Fred and the ageing Nemanja Matic.
As such, pundit Trevor Sinclair insists that for all their summer investment, midfield is still United’s weak point.
“I’ve said it last season, we were talking about this exact fixture, and I said Declan Rice and Soucek would walk into the Manchester United team,” he told talkSPORT.
“I don’t think their two or three holding midfielders would walk into the West Ham’s team.
“I think they are probably as good as you’re going to get in the Premier League at the moment.
“Soucek brings his unique running power, he’s a real boss in both boxes. Rice, meanwhile, has the composure and ability to run the game at the back is absolutely brilliant.
“The shape and the chemistry all over the pitch, everyone looks like they are enjoying playing for Moyes.”

Solskjaer ready to unleash Lingard
Solskjaer, meanwhile, has hinted that Jesse Lingard could be afforded a rare start for United when they travel to West Ham.
The attacking midfielder spent the second half of last season on loan at the London Stadium. He turned out to be an instant hit, notching nine goals in just 16 appearances.
However, chances have been limited so far since his return. And the midfielder blotted his copybook with a sloppy backpass that gifted Young Boys a midweek winner in the Champions League.
Nonetheless, Solskjaer suggests all is forgiven.
“With Jesse, no footballer likes making mistakes but it’s obviously part and parcel of the game,” Solskjaer said.
“We’ll learn from it, he’ll learn from it. We’re humans, every footballer makes mistakes. He’ll pick himself up and be ready to go on Sunday against West Ham.”
