“Unacceptable” – Former Chelsea star hints Blues’ transfer strategy has failed
Former Chelsea star Florent Malouda has hit out at the ‘unacceptable’ results and performances we’re seeing from the Blues when you factor in how much has been spent on signings in recent times.
In what seems like a clear dig at the current Chelsea ownership of Todd Boehly and Behdad Eghbali, who purchased the club from Roman Abramovich in 2022, ex-Blues winger Malouda made it clear that we’re not seeing a return on the owners’ investment so far.
CFC were beaten 1-0 by Liverpool in the Carabao Cup final at the weekend, and Mauricio Pochettino’s side also remain slumped in 11th place in the Premier League table.
It’s been another difficult season for Chelsea
For a club that won the Champions League as recently as 2021, and who are used to winning major trophies and finishing in the top four at the very least, this is clearly far from good enough.
Malouda enjoyed plenty of success during his time at Stamford Bridge in the Abramovich era, and he doesn’t sound too happy with how the team looks at the moment.
Chelsea’s results ‘unacceptable’ after spending spree
When asked about Gary Neville’s comment describing Chelsea as ‘billion pound bottle jobs’, Malouda admitted he couldn’t argue with it too much. Malouda exclusively told Ladbrokes Fanzone: “When you lose you have to accept criticism, and I don’t think that was a harsh comment. When you listen to Gary Neville talk about Man United, he can be harder on his own team. The difference between the money Chelsea have spent versus the results is unacceptable.
“I think it is good to understand that criticism comes from high expectations, and it is a good time for Chelsea to get back to the drawing board. What is happening now is simply not enough for a team like Chelsea.”
Most Chelsea fans will surely agree and will be hoping that this project starts to bear fruit soon, or that a different path is taken after so much wasted money on highly-rated young players who don’t seem to be stepping up.
