Transfer to Liverpool ‘very likely’ as cut-price Michael Edwards offer pushes Gladbach into a corner

Liverpool look ‘increasingly likely’ to secure the signing of Denis Zakaria in January with Borussia Monchengladbach reportedly left with little choice but to accept his departure.

The Switzerland international, 25, is nearing the end of his stint with the Bundesliga outfit. The combative midfielder is out of contract when the season concludes. At present, all the signs suggest fresh terms won’t be penned.

As such, Zakaria is not short of admirers. That list is headed by Liverpool, though Juventus, AS Roma and Bayern Munich also appear keen.

However, it is Liverpool’s offer which reportedly tempts the midfielder the most.

As per Calciomercato, Juve and Roma are currently unable to match the financial package put forward by the Reds.

They that while Juve could still raise their offer, it looks unlikely their proposal will match Liverpool’s.

As such, they report that a switch to Anfield is now appearing ‘very likely’.

They also report the Bundesliga side look like having little option but to accept Liverpool’s £10.2m (€12m) offer. The bid, submitted by Michael Edwards, looks likey to be one of his final acts in charge of Liverpool’s transfer dealings.

Zakaria and his advisors are ‘willing to facilitate the transfer and to say yes to their offer’.

Furthermore, Gladbach are coming to the realisation that his sale simply has to happen.

They could gamble on keeping the player until the summer in the hope of him signing an extension. However, with previous efforts failing, that appears a risk they are willing to take.

Gladbach chiefs hints at Denis Zakaria sale

Gladbach Live provide more details and explain why his exit appears increasingly likely.

‘Ultimately, this is a balancing act,’ they write. ‘Move and gain planning security. Or continue to gamble – with the risk of gambling away in the end.’

All things considered, it seems a strong possibility that Zakaria and Gladbach face a parting of ways in January.

Monchengladbach’s director of sport, Max Eberl, recently suggested they are powerless to prevent his exit.

“If he (Zakaria), or any other player, tell us that they want to leave then we will sort it out.

“It would be crazy to fight someone if they want to go,” Eberl previously told Bild.
