Tottenham close to giving new two-year deal to star whose exit looked inevitable
Tottenham are reportedly looking to hand a new two-year deal to a player whose exit appeared inevitable next summer.
Journalist Ekrem Konur claims that Spurs want to hand the veteran stopper a new contract, with the report going on to add that a deal with the France star is very close to actually being agreed.
The north London club view the 34-year-old as a hugely important part of Nuno Espirito Santo’s squad. To that end, they want Lloris around for another two years while the Portuguese manager shapes a new side in north London.
Lloris’ current deal runs out at the end of the season. And with Pierluigi Gollini snapped up on a loan to buy deal from Atalanta over the summer, it looked like the writing was on the wall for the former Lyon man.
However, it appears that Lloris could enter his 11th season as a Tottenham player in 2022-23 and beyond.
Lloris, who has racked up over 370 appearances for Spurs, is yet to concede a goal this season.
Indeed, Nuno’s men sit top of the Premier League table going into Saturday’s trip to Crystal Palace.
Lloris is expected to start the match at Selhurst Park, but Tottenham could be missing a number of first-team stars.

Trouble brewing for Nuno
First up, Ryan Sessegnon and Oliver Skipp, with the duo both suffering setbacks while on duty for England U21s. As per the FA, Skipp suffered a groin injury, while Sessegnon has a knock. Both look doubtful for the weekend.
Nuno also has a major concern over star forward Heung-min Son. The attacker played 90 minutes of South Korea’s 0-0 draw against Iraq last Thursday but has since missed their subsequent games after sustaining a calf problem.
At this stage, he’s rated ‘highly doubtful’ for the weekend.
One man who could benefit from his potential absence is Steven Bergwijn. However, the Dutch winger also hobbled off with an injury during the Netherlands’s 6-1 win over Turkey on Tuesday.
Tottenham’s troubles, however, don’t end there.
Indeed the club are also awaiting the outcome after the bizarre scenes that saw health officials halt the Brazil v Argentina clash.
Spurs duo Giovani Lo Celso and Cristian Romero were both involved in the game. The pair though have since been released from duty by Argentina.
However, as per the Evening Standard, they met up with Davinson Sanchez, who was on duty with Colombia.
The three of them are now understood to have flown to Croatia. They will now reportedly spend time training there to avoid being placed in a quarantine hotel in the UK.
And while they will miss Saturday’s game, the trio could be back in time to tackle Chelsea the weekend after.
