Sergio Aguero to start training as he eyes return to professional football
According to reports, Sergio Aguero will begin training with his former team in preparation for a possible comeback to football.
Shortly after moving from Manchester City to Barcelona in 2021, Aguero announced his retirement from the game.
Chest difficulties that Aguero experienced during Barcelona’s 1-1 draw with Deportivo de Alaves led to his hospitalisation.
Doctors then urged the Argentine to quit playing the sport after discovering he had a cardiac arrhythmia.
According to Mundo Deportivo, Sergio Aguero himself provided a recording from his cardiologist suggesting that the legendary Manchester City player may make a comeback to the game.
“The way things are going so far, you won’t have any problem playing at some point. Logically we have to do the tests and make you run as if it were a game. And it’s true, when you have the two central defenders… you have to make a fake or something like that, you have to be well prepared. So I would say… get ready, there is some hope,” the cardiologist told Aguero, as per Mundo Deportivo.
Aguero was questioned about returning to his former team, Independiente, who is coached by Carlos Tevez, when it was announced that he may play for a little while.
He said: “If Carlitos [Tevez, Independiente manager] calls me, what do you expect me to do?”
The cardiologist added: “We can say that you’re doing very well and that you have to get in good enough shape to be there for a few minutes. But I see you looking good, you’re doing everything and you didn’t have anything [problem]. We’re going to monitor you a little bit more. In short… It’s possible, yes it’s possible. You are doing very well.”
Sergio Aguero has participated in Gerard Pique’s seven-a-side Kings League even after his health issues.
In a 2021 match against Alaves, 41 minutes into Aguero’s first start for Barcelona, he felt soreness in his chest.
Before halftime, he even needed medical assistance on the pitch. After being told to take rest, Aguero, 35, ultimately made the decision to declare his retirement from the game of football.
Aguero held a news conference in December 2021 to announce his retirement.
An emotional Aguero said back then: “My health comes first. Medical staff have told me it’s best to stop playing and so I’m now leaving Barcelona and retiring from professional football.”
The news of Aguero coming back would be exciting for Manchester City fans, who will be delighted to see their record goal scorer make a comeback.
