PSG chief makes desperate ‘world’s best’ plea as transfer for star beckons

Paris Saint-Germain sporting director Leonardo has pleaded with Kylian Mbappe to remain at the club for the rest of his career, amid Real Madrid interest.

2017 Golden Boy winner Mbappe has been subject to interest from Real Madrid for some time. Indeed, Los Blancos would be even more deadly should they add one of the world’s very best talents to their ranks.

There is a sense of urgency at PSG to keep the star at the club, given his contract is up at the end of the season. What’s more, the interest from Real does not seem to have faltered.

Indeed, Mbappe is obviously a key member of the PSG side. He has 17 goal contributions from as many games in Ligue 1 this season.

Furthermore, he scored four goals and assisted seven in the Champions League group stage. That return highlights Mbappe as one of the very best in the world, a sentiment echoed by Leonardo.

“Mbappe is the best player in the world,” he said via The Sun.

“People will think that we say that because we want to renew his contract, but no.”

Indeed, PSG  are understandably desperate to retain Mbappe beyond this season, and Leonardo wants to do all he can to make that a reality.

“It is a complicated situation because we would like him to stay his whole life and we have to respect his position,” he said.

Despite the wishes of PSG, it may be tough to keep Mbappe’s eye from wandering towards Real. Indeed, when one of the biggest clubs in the world come calling, it is difficult not to take notice.

PSG hopeful of retaining Mbappe

PSG are hopeful that they will be able to keep Mbappe from the clutches of Real Madrid. Leonardo thinks there is still a possibility of that happening.

“I think there are still good opportunities to renew his contract. I believe in that,” he added.

“If Mbappe decides to stay, he will stay because it is our wish.”

Indeed, Mbappe is enjoying a fine period of his career with PSG. They are currently atop the Ligue 1 table by a margin of 13 points.

However, it may be time for a new challenge for Mbappe, given he has not yet renewed his contract.

PSG play Real Madrid in the Champions League round of 16. That fixture gives the star a great opportunity to face his potential teammates ahead of a likely move.
