Paper Talk: Joel Glazer draws up three-man shortlist in case Man Utd sack Solskjaer; Everton star drops hint over big move
Manchester United already have a shortlist of three names in case they sack Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Ilkay Gundogan has a new role at Manchester City, while Thursday’s transfer gossip claims an Everton star is irritating for a move to PSG.
GLAZERS HAS THREE CANDIDATES TO REPLACE SOLSKJAER
Manchester United owners, the Glazer family, have reportedly drawn up a three-man shortlist to replace Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
The Norwegian boss is firmly under the spotlight once again after some questionable decisions on Tuesday night. That’s after the Red Devils got their Champions League group stage campaign off to the worst possible start, losing 2-1 to Young Boys. Despite taking the lead through Cristiano Ronaldo, Aaron Wan-Bissaka then saw red.
The loss of a man subsequently changed the game, with the Swiss side equalising after 66 minutes. A bad mistake from Jesse Lingard then enabled the Swiss side to grab a last-ditch winner.
That led to one pundit suggesting the ‘utterly clueless’ United boss will be replaced by this world-class coach.
Now the Daily Mirror claims United’s chief decision-maker, Joel Glazer, is considering three candidates.
As per their article, top of their wish-list is former Chelsea boss Antonio Conte.
The Italian remains out of work having departed Inter Milan over the summer. And he remains highly regarded by the Glazers following title triumphs in both Italy and England.
Another big name who remains out of work is Zinedine Zidane, having left Real Madrid over the summer.
The France legend led Real to three LaLiga titles in a row, but left last season after a trophyless campaign.
And finally, the Glazers are reportedly huge fans of Leicester boss Brendan Rodgers. Having led the Foxes to successive fifth-place finishes, they also won the FA Cup last season.
The appointment of the Ulsterman, however, would be controversial given his long-standing association with rivals Liverpool.
