McTominay reveals what Rangnick is really like in Man Utd admission that puts Solskjaer in bad light

Scott McTominay has explained exactly what life is like under new Manchester United manager Ralf Rangnick in an admission that appears to put former boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in a bad light.

Rangnick was appointed as United’s interim boss until the end of the season following the sacking of Solskjaer, who left in November with the club floundering down in eighth place in the Premier League table.

The 63-year-old officially took charge of the Red Devils for the first time in their 1-0 win over Crystal Palace on Sunday. He then led a youthful United side to a 1-1 draw against Young Boys in the Champions League – with United already through to the knockout stage.

McTominay played the full 90 minutes against Palace and earned praise, along with matchwinner Fred. He did, however, urge the pair to be less passive with their passing.

And speaking ahead of United’s clash against bottom of the table Norwich on Saturday, McTominay gave his first impressions of the German’s managerial style.

“He’s been really, really good and he’s been good with the schedule. He’s made sure we have enough sleep and the times we’re in we can prepare,” he told Sky Sports.

“[He has] more steel behind closed doors, very firm, very driven. He knows what he wants in meetings. He’s very, very clear.

“That’s the way it is in football, to get your point across you have to be clear and forceful. If players aren’t doing what he’s asking then he’s not shy to tell him.

“First impressions are very, very good. We’ve obviously had a good result against Crystal Palace. Hopefully we can move forward with that and win more football games.”

Man Utd urged to sign ‘special’ talent

Meanwhile, Owen Hargreaves has urged Premier League rivals Manchester United, Liverpool, Chelsea and Manchester City to try and sign ‘special’ Jude Bellingham ‘whatever the cost’.

The 18-year-old has developed into one of European football’s top young talents since swapping Birmingham City for Borussia Dortmund in the summer of 2020. Indeed, Bellingham is now a regular for his club and country after shining on England duty too.

The teenager was linked with all four Premier League giants before opting to head to Germany. Indeed, Bellingham was actually shown around Old Trafford, only to snub the Red Devils.

Dortmund paid what now appears to be a bargain £25million for the midfielder. That figure has now quadrupled, but Hargreaves says money should not matter for a player that good.

“First of all, against Man City [in the Champions League last season] he was the best midfielder on the pitch, with Kevin de Bruyne out there, which is crazy,’ Hargreaves told BT Sport.

“Everyone’s going on about Haaland, ‘spend the money on Haaland’, and rightly so. But, honestly, if I’m Man United, Man City, Liverpool, Chelsea – that is the guy you go and get.

“That is the heart of your midfield for a decade. Whatever it costs, you go and make that happen because he is special.”
