Manchester United to compete with Barcelona for 29-year-old La Liga ace
Manchester United are reportedly keen on the Real Betis midfielder Guido Rodriguez.
A report from Fichajes claims that Manchester United are now favourites to secure the services of the 29-year-old Argentine midfielder and they will have to compete with the likes of Atletico Madrid and Barcelona.
Rodriguez will be a free agent in the summer and it remains to be seen whether Manchester United can convince him to move to the Premier League.
The opportunity to test himself in English football at this stage of his career could be an attractive proposition. The 29-year-old is at the peak of his powers and he has the physicality and technical attributes to do well in the Premier League.
It is no secret that Manchester United need to sign a defensive midfielder and the 29-year-old World Cup winner would be a solid acquisition for them. Casemiro has not been at his best this season and Manchester United need to bring in alternatives.
Rodriguez has proven himself in the Spanish league with Real Betis and he will look to make his mark in English football as well.
Guido Rodriguez is being linked with Manchester United and Barcelona
Manchester United will be hoping to challenge for major trophies in the coming seasons and signing quality midfielders would certainly boost their chances. They have the bones of a very good squad and a couple of quality additions in the summer could take them to a whole new level.
A quality defensive midfielder would not only protect the defensive unit, he would also allow the creative players to operate with more freedom.
Meanwhile, Barcelona need to sign a quality defensive midfielder as well. They are missing a reliable presence in that position since the departure of Sergio Busquets. It will be interesting to see if they can convince the South American to snub the opportunity to move to England and continue in La Liga.
