Man Utd exit in doubt as star disagrees with European giant over key issue

The transfer of a Man Utd star to Barcelona is in doubt due to a contract tussle, according to reports.

A number of players could leave Old Trafford in January as interim boss Ralf Rangnick looks to make the squad his own. The first to go will likely be French forward Anthony Martial.

The 26-year-old’s agent says he is looking for opportunities elsewhere due to a lack of game time. In response to that claim, Rangnick said Martial should speak to him about a transfer, not the media.

Jesse Lingard could also move on after featuring for a total of just 25 minutes in Man Utd’s last five Premier League games.

A January exit would make sense for the Red Devils as it would see them pick up a transfer fee for the Englishman. If they wait until the summer then Lingard will be available as a free agent.

Paul Pogba’s future is also up for debate. The midfielder is a target for European giants Paris Saint-Germain, Real Madrid and Juventus.

Similarly, Edinson Cavani is on Xavi’s wish list at Barcelona. The Spanish outfit need a new striker following Sergio Aguero’s retirement.

But Football Espana, citing The Transfer Exchange Show, claim Cavani’s switch to La Liga has hit a stumbling block.

Barcelona want to offer the goalscorer a contract lasting until the end of the campaign. This will allow them to assess his suitability and fitness without notable expense.

However, Cavani wants an 18-month deal which will see him through to the end of 2022-23. This would put the star in a good position to represent Uruguay at the World Cup in Qatar.

The two parties need to sort out their differences before a transfer can take place. United are willing to sanction a move following Cristiano Ronaldo’s arrival.

Man Utd target in Newcastle sights

Meanwhile, United could lose out on right-back target Kieran Trippier.

The England international is seen as a top-class replacement for Aaron Wan-Bissaka in Rangnick’s team.

But The Telegraph report that Newcastle are willing to rival them all the way. The Magpies have made Trippier their number one January target.

Eddie Howe is keen on the 31-year-old due to his attacking output, experience and leadership skills.

Newcastle are also confident of meeting his wage demands, once a fee can be agreed with Atletico. The news means United will have to make a quick decision over whether to sign Trippier this winter.
