Man City fend off transfer bid for waning star who has been replaced

Man City have knocked back a transfer approach from Brazilian side Atletico Mineiro for club captain Fernandinho, per a report.

Fernandinho has not featured heavily for Manchester City this season. Indeed, at 36 years of age, he is not able to play the amount of minutes he would have in previous years. Even in his prime, he would’ve faced an uphill struggle to displace Rodri who has blossomed into a vital cog in Pep Guardiola’s midfield.

Fernandinho has played just 10 times in the Premier League this season, with seven of those appearances coming from the bench.

Given his lesser role in the team, other sides are sensing an opportunity. Indeed, Atletico Mineiro are interested in landing the midfielder, per Sport Witness.

Despite the lack of playing time, Fernandinho still plays an important role in the squad. Of course, he is the club’s captain this season.

As such, it seems unlikely that Atletico Mineiro will be able to prise him away from City.

Indeed, the report states that Fernandinho wants to remain in Manchester until his contract is up, at the end of the season.

Given Fernandinho’s desire to remain at City, Mineiro’s interest is unlikely to bear fruit.

Fernandinho will likely assess his options at the end of the season, when his contract is up.

However, at present, the midfielder’s priorities will be the title charge of his Man City side. Indeed, another Premier League success would take Fernandinho’s tally up to five.

Man City look to reward red-hot star with contract

Man City are looking to show their gratitude to Bernardo Silva, by offering him a massive wage increase.

Indeed, Silva has been one of the form players in the Premier League this season.

Silva’s importance to City cannot be overstated, and as such, they want to tie him down to new terms.

That deal would have him become one of the highest earners in City’s ranks, alongside Kevin De Bruyne and Raheem Sterling. Also on their agenda is a bumper new deal for Joao Cancelo, per the Daily Star.
