Laporta to join Aguero for Barcelona press conference amid retirement talk
Sergio Aguero will take part in a press conference alongside Barcelona president Joan Laporta on Wednesday to discuss his future.
Aguero joined the Catalan side in the summer following the expiry of his Man City contract. A calf injury kept him out of action until October, and he went on to make his debut against Valencia in La Liga.
Aguero’s first Barcelona goal came in the 2-1 defeat to Real Madrid. However, less than a week later he suffered chest pains in the 1-1 draw with Alaves.
Tests have shown an abnormal heart rhythm, putting his future at the Camp Nou into doubt.
Aguero will now face the media to reveal a final decision on his playing days. BBC Sport journalist Guillem Balague believes the Argentine goalscorer will retire so as not to risk serious problems.
It would be a sad turn of events for the 33-year-old. He joined Barca with the promise of playing alongside friend and compatriot Lionel Messi.
But the seven-time Ballon d’Or winner left for Paris Saint-Germain in August due to Barca’s huge debt.
Injuries and now a heart problem have prevented Aguero from making any real impact on his return to Spain.
Aguero a Premier League legend
The striker will always remain a legend, particularly for his time at Atletico and then Man City.
After bursting onto the scene for Independiente in his native Argentina, Atletico paid £19.5m to land Aguero in 2006. He went on to score 100 goals in 230 games for the club, while also winning the Europa League in 2010.
A move to City followed, and it proved to be an inspired one. 260 goals in 390 appearances make him the deadliest overseas player in Premier League history.
He is fourth on the competition’s all-time goalscoring charts, behind only Alan Shearer, Wayne Rooney and Andy Cole.
Aguero’s goals took the Citizens to five Premier League titles, one FA Cup and six league cups. They also won the Community Shield on three occasions.
Guardiola gives Grealish advice
Meanwhile, City boss Pep Guardiola has been speaking about £100m man Jack Grealish.
“Grealish doesn’t have to do anything different. The way he’s playing is good,” the Spaniard said.
“It will come, absolutely no problem. He’ll continue to practice because you’ve got so many fantastic players.

“He thinks we have to score correct goals all the time… he doesn’t have to.
“[What] he has to do is play feel like he knows what he has to do, he has to do exactly what he is doing. No more than that. The rest is coming in time.
“He has chances to score goals every game and one day he is going to do it. He could have had a hat trick against Watford and he will have that chance again.”
