Klopp used strange prep method as he predicted Liverpool comeback against Newcastle
Jurgen Klopp has revealed he used a strange preparation method which made sure his Liverpool side were ready for their comeback win over Newcastle.
The Reds found themselves 1-0 down inside 10 minutes at Anfield when former player Jonjo Shelvey struck for the Magpies. However, the game was soon turned around, with Diogo Jota and Mohamed Salah converting.
An early goal for the visitors was a shock – but not for Klopp. He had anticipated it occurring, so watched back similar experiences against Eddie Howe sides.
Therefore, the pre-match build up focused on Bournemouth rather than the Newcastle team they were set to face.
Speaking after the game, Klopp said: “We used in preparations more Bournemouth than Newcastle for analysis.
“We won 2-1 last time Eddie Howe was here with Bournemouth after they scored another goal. We expected similar things. They made life hard for us.
“Being 1-0 down changed the mood a bit. We were rushing in moments. We scored really good goals. I’m really pleased in this period of the year when you just have to get through games.”

Liverpool had managed their narrow lead in the second half before Trent Alexander-Arnold scored a late screamer to make the final score 3-1.
On the goal, Klopp added: “I said it was the best long ball he played today. It was a stunner, unbelievable. His shooting technique is different level.
“In games like this the main thing is staying positive and offensive-minded. Take a chance.”
The defender himself was buzzing with the finish as it had been a long time coming for him.
“I’ve been waiting for that [type of goal] for five years,” Alexander-Aronold rejoiced. “I’ve had a few ones from the edge of box and dragged them. But I’ve caught that one sweet and it nestled in the top corner, a sweet strike and put the game to bed.”
Klopp explains Salah sub
Klopp disagreed with Howe about Liverpool’s first goal, which was scored while a Magpies player was laid on the ground clutching his head.
The German coach continued: “I didn’t see it back. I heard it plenty of times. He [Eddie Howe] is not happy about it.
“I didn’t see it back. Quite frequently players go down in the box when they lose a challenge. The assistant on my side told me all good.”
As the game neared its conclusion Salah was brought off, and Klopp explained: “Today was right to take him off a bit earlier. We play in three days again.”
