Klopp hope still alive as top Liverpool target denies German move sealed

Liverpool and other suitors have been given renewed hope of snatching prolific youngster Karim Adeyemi away from the clutches of Borussia Dortmund.

The Reds are one of a number of clubs said to be keen on the Red Bull Salzburg starlet. He has been turning heads with his displays in both the Austrian Bundesliga and Champions League. Having scored seven league goals from 29 outings last term, the 19-year-old has already found the net 14 times in 2021-2022.

And he has also shone on the bigger stage, with four goals in Europe’s elite club competition. Unsurprisingly, many top clubs have been linked.

Manchester United have joined the Reds in being mentioned in connection with the player. Bayern Munich, Barcelona and Chelsea are also thought to be interested.

Sport1 reported in November that Tottenham and Newcastle United had tested the water. But Borussia Dortmund appeared to have won the race for his signature.

Sky Deutschland reported earlier this month that a move to Dortmund was 95 per cent secured. But the Germany international has ruled out any switch in January and hinted that his plans are still fluid.

“Nothing is decided yet and I’ll be at Salzburg next year,” he told Sky Austria. “That’s where my focus is, absolutely. My head is here at Salzburg and I’m looking forward to the Champions League.”

Salzburg qualified for the last-16 of the Champions League where they will face Bayern.

Dortmund model a lure for Adeyemi

Dortmund have developed a knack for signing top-class youngsters before selling them on for a huge profit. Jadon Sancho fits the description perfectly.

The England international cost BVB just £8m but was sold to Manchester United for around £76m. However that price tag will be dwarfed by the one potentially hanging over Erling Haaland.

Also signed from Salzburg, he cost the Germans just €20m. But, after the Norwegian’s exploits for club and country, his value has gone through the roof.

Adeyemi has been valued at around £30m but that may increase by the end of the campaign. The club that wins the race for his signature will land a player with a keen eye for goal.

The Munich-born ace had not scored since November 6 but returned to form with a hat-trick at the weekend. He bagged three inside 44 minutes against WSG Tirol, with Die Roten Bullen 14 points clear of Sturm Graz at the top of the standings.
