Frenchman eyed by West Ham, Brighton prices himself out of Prem move
Celtic striker Odsonne Edouard, who has been the subject of interest from several Premier League sides, is reportedly pricing himself out of a move south of the border.
The Frenchman is available for around £15m this summer as he has just one year left on his contract. Having scored 84 goals in 174 appearances for Celtic, he is a good value for money signing for many sides in England’s top flight. Indeed, a number of them have been keen.
Brendan Rodgers, who signed Edouard during his time in charge of the Parkhead outfit, appeared to quite serious on acquiring him once more.
However, Leicester opted to sign Patson Daka from Red Bull Salzburg instead, ending the club’s interest in other striking options.
Arsenal have also been linked this summer. But it is West Ham and Brighton who have most recently been in the running for Edouard’s signature.
The Hammers are in serious need of a new striker. They have not yet replaced Sebastien Haller who left the club at the start of the year.
And Brighton are also requiring additional firepower up top. Last season they were infamously regarded as the worst converters of chances in the top flight.
The £50m fee they received from Arsenal for defender Ben White looked like a green light to pursue the former Paris Saint-Germain man.
And reports suggested they had opened talks over the possibility of signing him this summer.
However, The Sun are now reporting the player’s wage demands are proving to be too costly to make a deal happen.
He is wanting at least £85k per week, which the report claims is forcing the Seagulls to look elsewhere for a new frontman.
Edouard can run his contract with Celtic down and sign a pre-agreement with a club come January. But if he wants a move to the Premier League he’ll need to lower his demands.
Hammers aim for centre-back addition
Meanwhile, the Hammers have turned their attention to a Premier League player who has struggled for game time in the past year, according to a report.
They are faced with the difficult task of juggling their usual Premier League campaign with a Europa League challenge. But despite this increased workload, David Moyes hasn’t added to his squad anywhere near as much as would have been expected.
So far this window the east London side have confirmed just one permanent arrival in Craig Dawson. He has been joined by the loan signing of goalkeeper Alphonse Areola.
They have lost the significant presence of last season’s loanee Jesse Lingard. Their squad is if anything weaker than the one that finished the 2020/21 season. But they are looking to strengthen it with the addition of this man…
