Former club among three suitors suitors as Leeds make plans to let regular leave on loan

Leeds United could reportedly let Tyler Roberts leave the club on loan in the January transfer window, according to a trusted source.

The Wales forward is a regular under Marcelo Bielsa, having featured in all 11 Premier League games so far. However, he has just one start to his name and is yet to register a goal or an assist this season. Indeed, in 27 appearances last season, Roberts managed just one goal and two assists as United recorded a ninth-placed finish.

Despite his record, Bielsa is a firm believer in Roberts’ talents. He claims the player is a great option for Leeds and has often spoke of his ability to ‘unsettle’ opposition defences.

That said, the emergence of Joe Gelhardt could yet see Roberts’ game-time wane further. Indeed, the Leeds Under-23s starlet is tipped as ‘most likely to succeed under Bielsa’ in our look into United’s young guns.

As such, the Yorkshire Evening Post’s Graham Smyth has discussed the situation of Roberts going forwards. He claims the 22-year-old could be allowed to go out on loan, preferably to a Championship club.

The player is very much seen as one who can further improve at Leeds. However, a loan could be granted in order to help his confidence return.

And having committed to a new deal at Leeds until 2024 over the summer, he remains in Leeds’ long-term plans.

Indeed, should he become available, Roberts will not be short of prospective options in the EFL. Indeed, he’s already been linked with Nottingham Forest and Swansea, while his former club West Brom could also be a potential option.

Roberts wants to kick on at Leeds

Often deployed in a No 10 role, Roberts says his favoured position is as a centre forward.

Having scored his first Premier League goal at Southampton, Roberts spoke in the summer of his next steps.

“It was nice to get that monkey off my back, a little bit later than I expected, but I finally got there,” he said.

“Next season I’m looking to kick on and keep getting into those areas.

“I want to get more goals and become an even more important part of the team.

“I’m excited to see the fans back in the stadium next season. I’ll be working hard to make sure I’m at my best and to show them even more than I have.”
