Arsenal have reportedly approached Benfica manager Jorge Jesus over potentially replacing Mikel Arteta at The Emirates.

Arteta’s future has come under scrutiny on more than one occasion this season after the Gunners made a poor start to the new campaign. A mini-revival followed, only for the north London side to lose three of their last five Premier League outings.

A 3-0 victory over Southampton on Saturday eased some of that pressure, with Arsenal now sixth in the table.

However, there are still plenty of reports that Arsenal are keen to replace the Spaniard.

And Torcedores claims that 67-year-old Jorge Jesus, who has managed 14 different clubs, could come in.

The hugely experienced coach has never managed in England. However, the report adds that he has been contacted and is keen on the role.

Jesus has won the Portuguese league three times, as well as the Copa Libertadores with Flamengo.

He clearly has a big edge over Arteta in the experience department and is a proven winner. However, there is a growing feeling that the current Arsenal boss is building something that could be special in north London.

Arteta needs Arsenal consistency

Consistency is the current issue for Arteta, with results to up and down – along with performance levels.

But strong signings have been made, in the shape of Ben White, Aaron Ramsdale, Martin Odegaard, Takehiro Tomiyasu, Sambi Lokonga and Uno Tavares.

Young talents like Emile Smith Rowe and Bukayo Saka are also thriving. However, there is a real feeling that Arteta is one more bad run of results away from being shown the door.

And if that does happen, it looks like the Gunners could turn to Jesus to resurrect the club’s fortunes.
