Exclusive: Fabrizio Romano responds to Man City transfer links with replacement for big name
Manchester City are being linked with AC Milan goalkeeper Mike Maignan but Fabrizio Romano is currently unsure about potential replacements for Ederson.
The Premier League champions are surely going to be linked with a number of top goalkeepers in the near future after the news that Ederson could leave the Etihad Stadium, but it seems there’s nothing concrete to the Maignan rumours for the time being, according to Romano.
Speaking exclusively to CaughtOffside for his Daily Briefing column, the transfer news expert attempted to clear up some of the speculation doing the rounds at the moment, with his sources seemingly not able to confirm what other media outlets have reported on Maignan and a potential move to Man City.
Maignan has been a world class performer during his time at Milan, so it would make sense for him to be someone City liked the look of, but it seems we’re still some way off a final decision being made on Ederson anyway.
Mike Maignan to Manchester City?
Maignan transfer to replace Ederson at Man City?
“As I recently revealed, there are chances for Ederson to leave Manchester City this summer, so it’s normal to now see goalkeepers being linked with the Premier League champions,” Romano said.
“However, despite links with AC Milan’s Mike Maignan, I have no info yet on a new Manchester City goalkeeper, also because it will depend on what Ederson wants to do. At the moment it’s too early to say. Many goalkeepers will be linked with Man City now, but I don’t have anything confirmed yet.”
Losing Ederson could be a real blow for City, but the Brazilian shot-stopper did have some injury troubles in the season just gone, so if a top replacement can be found, then it might not be the most difficult issue for the club to recover from.
