Euro giants dismissive over Ronaldo transfer to leave Man City to get deal done
Paris Saint-Germain president Nasser Al-Khelaifi has dismissed reports linking the Ligue 1 club with a move for Juventus star Cristiano Ronaldo.
Manchester City have been offered the chance to sign Ronaldo, who wants to leave the Serie A side.
Juventus also want to sell the 36-year-old for financial reasons, the Portugal ace costs them almost £1m a week and has a year left on his contract.
His agent Jorge Mendes has been working behind the scenes to get Ronaldo a new club and he flew to Turin earlier this week. However, the super agent took a flight to Paris on Thursday, fuelling suggestions PSG could sign Ronaldo to replace Kylian Mbappe.
Al-Khelaifi though quickly put the talk to bed on Thursday evening. He jokingly told with his own TV channel beIN Sports the deal was not going to happen.
“We haven’t even thought about it,” Al-Khelaifi told beIN Sports.
City are the favourites to land the former Manchester United man.
AS and Calciomercato.it both believe Ronaldo has reached an agreement over terms with City. He has been offered €15m per season over a two-year deal.
The Turin side are looking for around £24m from any potential buyers, otherwise they would suffer a capital loss.
City though are trying to get him on a free transfer, says Corriere dello Sport.
Juventus directors though sat down with Mendes on Thursday morning to stress that they will not allow Ronaldo to leave the club without a fee.
Rooney doubts
Meanwhile, former United striker Wayne Rooney doubts Ronaldo would move to City because of his association with United.
“I have my doubts,” Rooney told reporters, per The Sun. “Cristiano has a great legacy at United.
“I don’t think he’s going to move to Manchester City. Of course in football you never know and in the past Peter Schmeichel went to City, as did Andrew Cole and Mark Hughes was their manager.
“But I don’t think somebody with Cristiano’s legacy would do that.”
