Erik ten Hag told decision over his future has been made after new concern among players
A number of Manchester United players have expressed worry about the amount of running that Erik ten Hag asks of them.
Ten Hag has presided over a lackluster campaign, and in recent weeks, talk around Old Trafford has centered on rumours over the Dutchman’s long-term future.
Sir Jim Ratcliffe, the club’s newest partial owner, has not publicly supported Ten Hag, thus it’s unclear if the team will stick with him in the future.
Ater losing to rivals Manchester City, a new concern has emerged at Man United. Following a 2022–2023 season that had 62 games overall, a report from the Manchester Evening News stated that several players in the United dressing room believe Ten Hag’s methods are too demanding. They also claim to think that the club’s significant injury list is a result of such demands.
United had a startling 47 instances of illness or injury this season, according to the report, and they were missing many first-team players for Sunday’s derby, including Rasmus Hojlund, Luke Shaw, and Harry Maguire.
United legend Paul Scholes thinks that Ratcliffe and his group have already decided on Ten Hag and would switch out the dugout before the upcoming campaign.
Scholes told Optus Sport on Sunday: “What we’re seeing is a million miles away from a team that should be challenging for the league. Every single season it’s just so far away.”
Erik ten Hag hasn’t quite lived up to expectations at Manchester United
Then, when asked if he believed Ten Hag would remain in command the next season, Scholes added: “I think they [INEOS] have already made their mind up. I don’t think he will be there next season. No.
“From the interviews, we’ve heard with Sir Jim, I thought there was a little bit of negativity towards the club the last 10 or 11 years and especially the last two years. I don’t think he’s happy with what’s going on. I wouldn’t be surprised if they’re looking for a new manager now. I’m not saying it’s the right decision.”
Pressure is increasing every week on ten Hag and with every defeat that Man United suffer, it is looking like the Dutchman’s time at the club is coming to an end.
Man United’s season is almost over as getting into the Premier League top four is highly unlikely now. They face Liverpool in the FA Cup quarterfinal, which is another difficult match for the Red Devils.
