Chelsea identify two of the best young managers as Mauricio Pochettino’s replacement
The Guardian reports that Todd Boehly and Chelsea have determined that Roberto De Zerbi of Brighton and Sporting manager Ruben Amorim are their top choices to succeed the Mauricio Pochettino at Stamford Bridge.
Amorim’s work at Sporting, who are currently leading the Portuguese league ahead of Benfica and Porto, has greatly pleased the Chelsea hierarchy.
In contrast, De Zerbi has won several admirers for his performance at Brighton since succeeding Graham Potter in 2022.
In Pochettino’s first season as Blues manager, Chelsea have been extremely difficult to manage even though the team has spent well over £1 billion since Boehly and Clearlake Capital took ownership.
They haven’t impressed in the Premier League this season either. When they played Liverpool in the Carabao Cup final this season, they had a fantastic chance to win a trophy, but they lost the game late in extra time.
Pochettino is being offered the opportunity to remain with the Blues, and it is said that the team’s ownership is not in the mood to make a quick decision.
After having four managers since the previous season, Boehly and Clearlake are seeking consistency, but they are still prepared to make the decision if Chelsea’s form continues to deteriorate.
Due to his outstanding work for Brighton, De Zerbi is also being considered by Manchester United and Liverpool, and Amorim was on Chelsea’s shortlist before Pochettino’s appointment.
The upcoming summer transfer window will be more exciting in terms of manager appointments than player transfers, with some of the biggest clubs in the world looking to make changes.
