Brazil beckons for Villa outcast as twin reasons emerge for loan deal

Aston Villa are reportedly prepared to allow Wesley Moraes to move on loan to Brazil to ‘showcase’ his talents and for family reasons.

The 25-year-old joined Villa in the summer of 2019, with the West Midlanders paying Club Brugge £22m for his services. However, his move has proved far from successful to date. The Brazilian spent more than year out of action with a serious knee injury suffered on January 1 2020.

He made a few appearances towards the end of last season but was loaned to Brugge for 2021-2022. The hope was to give him some much-needed game time but it has been a frustrating period in Belgium.

Wesley has played just 69 minutes of league football across three appearances and one start. And it seems as though Villa are ready to take action.

Recent reports claim a number of Brazilian sides are keen to secure him on loan in January. Website Nosso Palestra (via Sport Witness) are reporting that Palmeiras had a ‘positive response’ in their recent dialogue about a winter deal.

Discussions have been taking place through agent Hugo Cajuda. And it has been reported that Brugge have their ‘hands tied’ if Villa decide to let him move to Brazil.

The Villans feel playing back in the country of his birth will be a ‘good showcase’ for his talents. But it is not just the playing side of things that points to a move away from Europe.

Family matters to Wesley

Wesley is about to become a father. And the same site suggest that he and his wife want to spend a year in Brazil with their child.

Therefore ‘family issues’ will also play a part in any decision that may be made in the new year. However, it seems as though Steven Gerrard values the player.

He has yet to enjoy a lengthy run for the Villa Park outfit due to the knee injury. And it has also been claimed that Villa will sanction a one-year loan but with no option to buy.

He is under contract with his present employers until the summer of 2014. It remains to be seen if he ever kicks a ball for the Premier League outfit again.

But a decent spell in South America would certainly raise his profile and value. The clubs involved are said to be discussing the financial side of any possible loan to Palmeiras.

Other Brazilian clubs are known to be interested, with Sao Paulo said to be monitoring the situation. But Nosso Palestra state that Palmeiras ‘won’t take part in any type of auction’ for the former Trencin star.
