Aston Villa tipped for one more summer transfer after imminent departure
Aston Villa have been tipped to complete one more transfer before the summer window closes following an imminent departure.
Just as Villa have had a busy window bringing players in, they’ve equally been quite active in shipping players off. The well documented departure of Jack Grealish is one of six first team players who have left. And it is soon to be seven when Wesley is sent out on loan.
The striker was omitted from the Carabao Cup squad on Tuesday because he is set to return to former side Club Brugge for the season.
This could not be their final piece of business, though, according to Gabby Agbonlahor.
Speaking to Football Insider, the former Villain, who made 391 appearances for the club, said: “[Dean] Smith will want to keep a big squad of players.
“With Conor Hourihane, if you look at the midfield, there’s no reason why he cannot break into the team.
“He’s got the quality and done it in the Premier League before. Everyone knows how good Conor is.
“Maybe [Frederic] Guilbert might be one that goes out. You do have Tuanzebe as cover for Cash and Young can play there.
“But apart from that, I don’t see any other players leaving.”
Guilbert, 26, has been a Villa player who two and a half years. He featured heavily in the 2019/20 Premier League campaign but not since Matty Cash’s arrival.
The right-back is firmly second choice, at best. He did play in the 6-0 cup win at Barrow and in fact netted the fifth goal (as pictured above).
But Agbonlahor believes his Villa days are numbered. He spent the second half of last season on loan in his native France with Strasbourg and could soon be out the door at Villa Park again.
Villa incoming also touted
Meanwhile, there may still be one more player incoming for Dean Smith before 11pm on August 31 too.
Earlier this week his side were credited with an interest in Sparta Rotterdam’s Abdou Harroui.
According to Italian outlet TuttoMercatoWeb (via Daily Star), the two clubs are in talks over a transfer for the Dutch U21 international.
Villa were even pushing to get a deal over the line last the weekend. But the report said it was now likely to take place this week, although the clock is ticking.
