Arsenal outcast ‘stuck’ in north London as transfer proposals dry up
One Arsenal man is reportedly ‘stuck’ in north London after a series of transfer proposals dried up ahead of the January window.
Mikel Arteta is keen to engineer a squad overhaul at the Emirates to push the Gunners back into European contention. That could see a number of experienced players leave, including Alexandre Lacazette and Nicolas Pepe.
Egyptian midfielder Mohamed Elneny is also attracting interest from Turkey. Galatasaray are hoping to snap the 29-year-old up for a cut-price fee, as his contract expires in June.
However, they are not the only side keeping tabs on Elneny’s situation. The Daily Mail report that Newcastle are discussing whether to sign the player as they look to escape the drop.
Arsenal centre-back Pablo Mari could follow Elneny out of the exit door. The 28-year-old has fallen down the pecking order and is on just three appearances for the campaign.
Two of those were in the first two weeks of the Premier League season, which saw Arsenal lose to fellow Londoners Brentford and Chelsea.
Mari has little chance of replacing either Gabriel or Ben White in Arteta’s plans. He also has to contend with Rob Holding and Calum Chambers for a starting spot.
Recent reports claim Mari is considering his future and may re-join Brazilian side Flamengo.
But Sport Witness, citing reports in the Brazilian press, state that Mari is stuck at Arsenal. Despite the links with Flamengo, transfer talks are yet to materialise.
No proposal has been made to Arsenal or even Mari’s representatives. It looks like the Spaniard will be staying with the Gunners, until the summer at least.
Mari’s contract runs until June 2024. That means Arsenal do not risk losing him on a free transfer in the near future.
Arsenal back in for Real Madrid man – report
Meanwhile, football.london, citing reports coming out of Spain, claim Lucas Vazquez is back on Arsenal’s radar.
Arteta has long been an admirer of the winger, although his team has been unable to strike a deal with Real Madrid as of yet.
But that could change as Vazquez is ‘very angry’ with manager Carlo Ancelotti. He has been ‘ostracised’ by the Italian, which could lead to a January switch.

Arsenal will have to fight off clubs from La Liga and Serie A for the 30-year-old’s signature.
Vazquez has made 256 appearances for Madrid in all competitions, notching 27 goals and 54 assists.
