Paper Talk: Tottenham swoop in for 24-goal striker as transfer stance changes; Chelsea to axe trio to fund Haaland bid
Tottenham Hotspur are now competing with West Ham United for a La Liga striker, while Chelsea are ready to sacrifice three players to fund a big move for Erling Haaland – all in Tuesday’s transfer gossip.
WEST HAM FACE TOTTENHAM THREAT FOR STRIKER
Tottenham have joined West Ham in the race to sign Sevilla striker Youssef En-Nesyri, according to reports.
Mundo Deportivo claim that the two London rivals are in the hunt for the Morocco international, who scored 24 goals in all competitions last season.
West Ham were already keen on En-Nesyri in January, when they viewed him as a potential replacement for Sebastien Haller. Since nobody has yet filled that void, they may resurrect their pursuit.
Doubt has previously been cast on the 24-year-old’s willingness to accept a move to the Premier League. However, Sevilla’s stance may have shifted somewhat.
Previously keen to keep their frontman, they now realise they could cash in on him. If they do not sell defender Jules Kounde, who is their most valuable asset, En-Nesyri could be sent away to raise funds for other deals.
He is not on the transfer list and they would be happy to continue with him, but offers could give them something to think about.
It seems such offers may come from the English capital. The report claims Tottenham have now expressed an interest in the former Malaga man as well.
En-Nesyri to cover for Kane or replace him?
Harry Kane’s future continues to be a source of speculation. The England captain is desperate to win the trophies that his ability deserves, but his cabinet remains empty.
Therefore, he is considering a move away, potentially to a Premier League rival. In that event, he will need to be replaced. Although, even if he stays, Spurs still need more competition up front.
Carlos Vinicius acted as his backup last season, but was only on loan and has returned to his parent club. Hence, Spurs need another deputy now.
En-Nesyri’s ability means he is probably regarded as a first choice rather than backup, but Spurs could have plans either way.
They would have to convince En-Nesyri that English football is for him, though. Both he and his agent have spoken in the past about his lack of enthusiasm for living in the UK.
Furthermore, Mundo Deportivo claim he may be waiting to see if even bigger offers arrive. He has Champions League football on offer at Sevilla, something neither Tottenham nor West Ham can currently match.
But they could still test Sevilla’s resolve before trying to persuade the player.
