Tottenham outcast could provide club unexpected January boost
An update on the future of former Tottenham flop Marcus Edwards may just give the side an unexpected boost come January, for one important reason.
Edwards was once described by former Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino as a ‘young Lionel Messi’. However, that reputation afforded him just one senior start for the north London club.
The youngster joined Guimaraes in 2019, and has been slowly reviving his career from there.
Indeed, his impressive form since joining the side has caught the eye of a number of top clubs. What’s more, Guimaraes may be forced to sell Edwards, due to financial troubles, per Sport Witness.
A deal would be of interest to Spurs, as a clause in his contract states they are eligible for 50% of the transfer fee.
Edwards’ transfer value currently sits somewhere around the €10million mark.
However, the Englishman has a release clause of €50million. Indeed, Spurs would be happy to sit back and rake in half of that figure.
The side would obviously welcome gaining a substantial fee without having to sell any star players.
Indeed, with Sporting Lisbon and Olympiakos vying for Edwards’ signature, a deal may be complete in January.
As such, Spurs would receive a healthy boost. Indeed, that would be massive, as Antonio Conte is surely plotting some signings in his first transfer window with the club.
Tottenham attempt to scupper Hammers deal
The Serbian is seen as one of the top centre-halves in Serie A, and Tottenham could use an imposing central defender.
Tottenham have the funds to complete a January deal, if Fiorentina do intend on selling.
The Serie A side have a reported ‘gentleman’s agreement’ with Milenkovic, regarding him leaving the club.
However, that is likely to be in the summer. As such, Spurs will need to come up with a good offer to force Fiorentina’s hand in January.
