Impending Everton arrival ‘not ready’ as coach cites Champions League failure
Former Dynamo Kiev coach Yozhef Sabo made a shocking claim on the talent of Everton target Vitaliy Mykolenko, amid a huge update on the star’s future.
Everton were linked with the Ukrainian of late, with a deal looking likely. Indeed, a new left-back signing would be key, given Lucas Digne’s omission from recent squads after an apparent fallout with Rafa Benitez.
What’s more, Mykolenko seems a capable talent, especially given his 21 Ukraine caps at just 22 years old. In addition, he has provided three assists in 15 Premier Liga games this season.
However, Sabo feels as if a big Premier League move is premature, as it is ‘too early’ for Mykolenko to play at that level.
“In my opinion, it is too early for Vitaliy to play in the English championship. He plays well on attack, connects and assists. But this is in the UPL,” he said via Sport Witness.
“The PL is a completely different league, another championship, and there is no way to compare it with the UPL, of course.
“We have not seen it in the Champions League. His opponents did not allow him to prove himself.”
Indeed, three of Mykolenko’s last four Champions League match ratings have been below a six, per WhoScored. Those ratings seem to reinforce the point that Mykolenko is not yet capable against stronger opposition.
However, transfer guru Fabrizio Romano claims the Ukrainian is having a medical at Everton.
Indeed, it seems we will soon see whether Mykolenko is able to cut it at Premier League level. Everton fans will hope Sabo’s assessment of the full-back is false.
Mykolenko among Toffees January targets
Everton’s transfer search amid a poor run of form has led them to Metz star Fabien Centonze.
Cheap deals will be key for the Toffees in the upcoming window, as Financial FairPlay regulations scupper their chances of big-money moves.
A deal for the Metz star is likely to cost around £8million. Indeed, that should be within Everton’s budget.
What’s more, the goalscoring full-back – who has bagged four goals this season – is seen as an apt replacement for Seamus Coleman, who is the wrong side of 30.
