‘Cheap’ Tottenham outcast told reasons why West Ham a perfect fit
Danny Mills feels Dele Alli could prosper under the guidance of David Moyes and has urged West Ham to sign the Tottenham star ‘on the cheap’ in January.
Dele, 25, had been a regular starter for Spurs in five Premier League seasons. But his game time diminished during Jose Mourinho’s reign. And there was no discernible improvement in his situation under Nuno Espirito Santo.
Antonio Conte has yet to give the man with 37 England caps much of a run in the first team. Rumours of a winter exit continue to grow.
And it was reported earlier this week that Newcastle United have already opened talks about a move for the schemer.
Magpies manager Eddie Howe will be backed in the upcoming transfer market as the Tynesiders try to plot a course away from danger.
But the Hammers have also been linked and are currently a more exciting prospect than relegation-threatened Newcastle. West Ham lured Jesse Lingard to the London Stadium on loan last winter.
And the Manchester United man played a huge role in Moyes’ side finishing sixth.
Mills has urged the East End outfit to try to land Dele. And he feels the former MK Dons ace would relish the chance of working with the Scottish tactician.
He told Football Insider: “Could West Ham get hold of him? A little bit like Lingard. With David Moyes, you think ‘Wow, look what Moyes did to Jesse Lingard’.
“If Dele Alli is prepared to work hard then there is no better manager than David Moyes. They need that sort of player, they need that sort of attacking player in their ranks. That would be a good move.”
West Ham move ticks all boxes for Dele
Newcastle look set to be major players in the Premier League in the future. But their efforts are currently focused on avoiding relegation and the possibility of an embarrassing situation after the Saudi-backed takeover.
Mills is adamant that the Hammers are a better fit. And the former Leeds United and England defender has called on the capital outfit to get him on board.
“If I was West Ham I’d be having a serious look at him. Of course, he’s got to be right and his attitude has got to be right but that would be a decent move for both if they can make it work,” he added.
“Just go on loan for the rest of the season. There are some good coaches at West Ham and they are in good form.
“If you could bring Dele Alli off the bench to supplement Antonio, why wouldn’t you? You could probably get him out relatively cheap too.”
