Leicester open contract talks with integral pair to ward off Arsenal, Chelsea

Leicester have begun contract discussions with two of their most highly rated stars to push back Arsenal and Chelsea, according to one journalist.

The Foxes have sold a number of their top players to so-called ‘Big Six’ clubs in the last few years. Harry Maguire, Riyad Mahrez, Ben Chilwell and N’Golo Kante are the most noteworthy examples.

Rumours continue to put Youri Tielemans in the sights of Leicester’s Premier League rivals. Liverpool, Man Utd and Man City are all keeping tabs on the Belgian midfielder.

Promising centre-back Wesley Fofana, meanwhile, is a target for Champions League holders Chelsea. The Blues could move for Fofana if Antonio Rudiger leaves Stamford Bridge on a free transfer next summer.

The Telegraph reporter John Percy provides an update on the futures of two integral Leicester stars.

He claims talks over a contract extension have begun with 20-year-old Fofana. Brendan Rodgers’ side want to increase his £51,000-a-week wage to ward off Chelsea.

Fofana has undergone surgery after suffering from a fractured fibula and ankle ligament damage in pre-season. He is aiming to return before the end of the month.

Percy also gave Leicester fans some promising news on James Justin. The 23-year-old, who can operate on either side of defence, is attracting attention from Arsenal.

But the Foxes are once again keen to tie him down to a long-term deal. Negotiations are in their infancy but could be finalised in the next few months.

Justin is also close to returning to the Leicester team. He has been out since February due to a knee injury.

Rodgers will be desperate for Fofana and Justin to come back amid Leicester’s defensive woes. Prior to the 4-0 win over Newcastle last time out, they conceded 10 goals in five matches in all competitions.

Leicester vs Tottenham off

Meanwhile, the Premier League game between Leicester and Tottenham at the King Power Stadium on Thursday evening has been postponed due to a Covid outbreak in the hosts’ camp.

The Foxes requested the clash be postponed after further positive tests in their squad.

Tottenham had already travelled and were staying in a hotel close to the stadium ahead of the match.

The game becomes the latest postponement this week after Brentford vs Manchester United and Burnley against Watford also fell by the wayside.

News of the latest postponement will increase concern that football again could be shut down amid heightening Covid fears.
