EXCLUSIVE: West Ham, Everton dealt blow in bid to sign son of LaLiga legend

Premier League rivals West Ham and Everton are set to suffer a blow in their bid to sign striker Gio Simeone, TEAMtalk understands.

The son of Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone, has enjoyed a brilliant campaign in Serie A and is one of the top-scorers in the division with 12 goals. Indeed, that form has led to a number of clubs scouting him, including the Hammers and the Toffees.

Both clubs have enquired after a loan deal. However, it’s emerged that Simeone will not be allowed to move due to the fact he has played for two teams already this season.

Simeone played just six minutes Cagliari before joining Verona on loan – where he has hit form.

We understand Simeone’s people have already tried to appeal the decision over his brief substitute appearance. However, they have been told that the rules are set in stone – and a player is not able to play for more than two sides in any one season.

West Ham given hope over defender deal

Meanwhile, an apparent agreement between Nikola Milenkovic and Fiorentina’s owner means he will likely be on the move, giving West Ham hope of a deal.

West Ham’s defensive issues at present are apparent, with Kurt Zouma and Angelo Ogbonna out for long periods. What’s more, that leaves the Hammers with just two senior, recognised centre-backs available.

Indeed, signing a new centre-half will be key for the side, given their lack of depth in the position.

As such, the Hammers have been reported to be interested in Milenkovic, according to Sport Witness. They were also keen on him in the summer, but were unable to complete a deal.

A player of Milenkovic’s quality would be a massive boost for West Ham. Indeed, Fiorentina are in good form this season, sitting in fifth place in Serie A, and Milenkovic is party to that.

Milenkovic agreement in place, but timeline doesn’t suit Hammers

The report states that the 32-cap Serbia international has a ‘gentleman’s agreement’ with Fiorentina’s owner to leave the club.

However, that is likely to happen in the summer, rather than the January window. As such, it does not help West Ham’s immediate problems.

But Milenkovic remains a top player, and could be a major signing in the summer.

West Ham could pursue the Serbian when that time comes, and his future will likely be away from Fiorentina. However, AC Milan and Juventus are reportedly interested in the star.

As such, West Ham may face a fierce battle for Milenkovic’s services. That could result in Fiorentina bumping up his price tag.
