Tottenham star officially up for sale as Conte tells him ruthless truths

Tottenham have confirmed to Dele Alli that he will be allowed to leave the club in January after reportedly being told he has no future at the club under Antonio Conte.

Dele, 25, has become a shadow of the player rated as one of the top Premier League midfielders just a few years ago. He struggled under Jose Mourinho, playing only a peripheral role at times. And things have not improved this term, with one goal from six starts and eight Premier League appearances.

Indeed, he has started just five Premier League games this season – all of which came under previous manager Nuno Espirito Santo.

Now, the Daily Telegraph reports that Alli has been given permission to seek a new club in January. The report that the move has been officially sanctioned by Conte, who is busy shaping his Spurs squad.

They state that, following talks with the midfielder, Conte has told ruthlessly told Dele they will not stand in his way should a suitable offer come in.

Furthermore, Conte sees no future at all for Dele in his Tottenham plans.

The Telegraph states that Spurs chairman Daniel Levy prefers a straight cash sale for the midfielder. However, a loan move – with a view to a permanent transfer – will also be up for consideration.

Dele Alli – a talented player locked away

His arrival on the transfer market will likely alert a number of managers, who will be aware of Dele’s talents.

There is clearly a talented player in there, who is more than capable of performing at this level.

Indeed, at his peak, the former MK Dons star was being rated in the £50m bracket. Now, Spurs would likely consider a fee in the region of £15m.

Since Conte’s arrival at the club, Dele has started in the embarrassing Europa Conference defeat to Mura. His only other appearances have been off the bench.

His last England cap came back in 2019 and he is all too aware himself of how he needs a move to revive his career.

Indeed, the Telegraph claims Dele will look to draw inspiration from Jesse Lingard, who rejuvanted his career with a loan at West Ham this time last year.

Dele Alli told to move on

His exit at Spurs will likely come as a shock to no-one given the way in which he’s gone stale.

Indeed, Spurs legend Clive Allen recently urged him to leave the club, while Darren Bent has taken it a step further.

“I think he needs a fresh challenge somewhere else,” the former Tottenham striker said. “He looks to me like the world is weighing him down, and it shouldn’t do.

“Listen, he is playing at a great football club – great players, great supporters. But I think he needs to go elsewhere now. I think he needs to go somewhere and refocus.”

He added: “I did it, I left Spurs. I needed to go somewhere where I could just solely focus on playing football and for me, Sunderland was the perfect landing spot.

“Ultimately, the following season I had the best season I ever had, scored 25 goals.  But I needed to go somewhere where there was hardly any distractions and I could focus solely on playing football.”
