Jurgen Klopp buzzing with Liverpool’s history boys; left gobsmacked over ‘outstanding’ centre-back’s skill
Jurgen Klopp could not hide his emotions after Liverpool became the first English team to win every group game of their Champions League campaign after victory in Milan.
The Reds came from behind to beat Milan 2-1 at the San Siro to complete their perfect Group B campaign. Having fallen behind to a Fikayo Tomori close-range finish (29), Liverpool hit back in fantastic fashion.
Indeed, the equaliser came just seven minutes later through a typically-composed Mohamed Salah finish. And the winner arrived from man-in-form Divock Origi, who steered home an excellent header.

Despite making eight changes, the Reds were good value for the win. Indeed, they became the first English side to win six out of six group games.
After the game, Klopp told BT Sport: “Very proud. Especially because of the sixth game to be honest. We chose that line-up because we wanted to win the game.
“The team needed fresh legs. We needed desire to play this game which is difficult in this hectic schedule to always be on fire for the next game.
“What the boys did tonight I could not be more proud. It was an incredible game. I am so happy. The performance was outstanding. Having 21 shots, so many situations where we played outstandingly well and defended passionately and well organised.”
% record intact.

Nat Phillips foxes Milan attackers
On Nat Phillips’ composed turn in the box with Milan attackers around him in the second half, he added: “Yes! Situation of the game, eh? No he played an outstanding game.
“Alisson wanted to play desperately so that speaks a lot for him. Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah were exceptional and how much they help defensively was outstanding.
“This mix of fresh legs and then quality as well was really good. But Nat with that situation was obviously… *laughs*… yes, I am looking forward to seeing it again. We have already spoken about it in the dressing room. It was a tricky one!”
