Man Utd tell Rangnick he has £100m budget to rescue season during secret Old Trafford tour

Manchester United have reportedly told Ralf Rangnick he has £100m to rescue their season as he was given a secret guided tour of Old Trafford.

The new boss has not been able to take charge of the Red Devils squad yet due to work permit issues. Nonetheless, he travelled to England while they are resolved. And as soon as his quarantine was over, Rangnick made a dart to the Theatre of Dreams.

It was there where he was shown around by United Director of Football, John Murtough, who was influential in his arrival.

The German coach checked out the pitch and chatted with former defender Wes Brown. It was at this point he was spotted by a United fan who was also having a tour of the stadium.

And according to The Mirror, Rangnick has been informed he has a transfer budget of up to nine figures to play with in January.

The club’s hierarchy are said to be confident the 63-year-old can turn their campaign around.

As such, they are willing to back him with £100m in the market.

They note the previously mentioned Amadou Haidara as one potential signing. But his RB Leipzig team-mate Christopher Nkunku is also touted as a player of interest.

Nkunku, 24, is a versatile attacking midfielder who has scored 13 goals and registered 12 assists in 19 matches this season.

No other winter window targets are mentioned. But Erling Haaland’s name pops up once again for next summer.

Rangnick was sporting director for RB Salzburg when Haaland was playing in Austria. And he has a good relationship with his father, Alf-Inge.

United are hoping this will give them the edge in the race to sign him. Rangnick’s connections spread far and wide. And he’s keen to put them to good use for another summer signing.

Ambitious Rangnick plan outlined

As per Bild journalist Christian Falk, Rangnick is hoping to make Chelsea forward Werner the big statement arrival of his reign.

Rangnick has a long-standing association with Werner having brought him to Leipzig from Stuttgart.

Indeed, Werner enjoyed a highly-prolific spell under his mentor at the Red Bull Arena, scoring 95 goals in 159 appearances.

That form resulted in a £47.5m switch to Chelsea. Werner, though, has struggled to replicate his form in the Bundesliga at Stamford Bridge.

A sizeable offer could tempt Chelsea to cash in on Werner. And while some might suggest they would oppose selling the star to a top-four rival, Falk has outlined one reason why the deal could go ahead.

He states the close friendship between Tuchel and Rangnick gives United a strong belief the deal could go through.
