Solskjaer green light to sign £60m Uruguayan in final effort to save him from Man Utd sack

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been granted permission to sign an out-of-favour Real Madrid midfielder in what looks like a final bid to save their season and himself from the sack, claims a report.

United face a crucial match at Watford on Saturday in a game that could prove crucial to their season. A run of one win in six games has left them cut adrift in the Premier League title race. And but for Cristiano Ronaldo’s Champions League heroics, they would also be facing an early elimination in Europe too.

Thankfully though for Solskjaer, our Predictions are at least tipping them for some respite at Vicarage Road.

The pressure has seemingly been ramped up on Solskjaer this season after a big summer of spending. The arrivals of Ronaldo, as well as Raphael Varane and Jadon Sancho certainly raised expectations.

One area of the field though that United failed to address was the central midfield. With links to Declan Rice, United ultimately opted against a move given West Ham’s huge valuation.

And that failure to strengthen appears in that position appears to have backfired. Fred and Scott McTominay have both struggled to find their best form this season. Furthermore, Paul Pogba is facing a spell out, while his agent is also mixing up the transfer pot once again.

Another player United looked at was Eduardo Camavinga. He ultimately joined Real Madrid in a big-money deal. But now United are reportedly looking to sign one his teammates in Federico Valverde.

The Uruguayan has fallen down the pecking order under Carlo Ancelotti this season. Indeed, Toni Kroos, Luka Modric, Casemiro and summer signing Camavinga are all ahead of him for a central midfield role.

And with their financial issues well documented, they reportedly willing to let him leave in January.

As such, El Nacional, via the Daily Mirror, claims United are readying a move worth £60m.

That’s a bid that Real are ready to accept, though demand in the player is high should their willingness to sell come to light.

However, the reports in Spain claim Edinson Cavani – his teammate for Uruguay – can help convince him to move to Old Trafford.

And the move is likely to be ratified by United’s money men in a final bid to salvage their season.

Solskjaer still fighting for Man Utd future

Should the deal go through, it will reportedly be the final throw of the dice as far as Solskjaer is concerned.

His signing could reinforce the key midfield area and ensure a successful end to the season. And a major trophy could ultimately prevent the United boss from the sack.

Solskjaer though continues to fight for his own future, having admitted to holding talks over their current struggles.

“Yeah, the players, the staff, myself, the club, we are working to one goal to improve, get better results.

“Fans are still supporting the team and the club. They’ve been through this period, backed the team through the rebuild.

“When you lose a game you’re always disappointed and under pressure. We’ve been communicating openly and honestly. There’s one game that matters and what goes on after that. This week has been really good for training.”
