Inter Milan make two-fold promise to midfielder to ward off Liverpool, Man Utd
Inter Milan are understood to be ready to push the boat out to get Italy star Nicolo Barella to commit himself to a new contract with the Serie A side.
The Azzurri midfielder has received admiring glances from all over Europe after helping Roberto Mancini’s men to glory at Euro 2020.
Barella was a key figure for Mancini this summer and the midfielder started in a three-man midfield against England in the final at Wembley.
According to Calciomercato last month, Liverpool and Manchester United are admirers of Barella.
Liverpool have been potential suitors for Barella for a while. They are believed to have made an enquiry well before Barella’s starring role at the Euros.
Enrico Camelio from Radio Radio told the Calciomercato Show: “Liverpool asked for information for Barella, but for Inter they cannot be transferred. It ended there”.
Inter were looking to offload one big player in the summer to balance the books. Of course that big departure proved to be Romelu Lukaku to Chelsea for around £100m.
Manchester United have also been tipped to make a move for the player if they sell Paul Pogba. Pogba is in the final year of his contract and talks have started over a new deal.
“There are negotiations with Paul’s representatives and the club,” Solskjaer said last month. “Me and Paul work together every day here and we keep on trying to improve and to enjoy ourselves.”
Saul Niguez was one possible replacement, but he has since signed for Chelsea.

£70m price tag
So, Barella could also be in United’s thinking.
Inter though are keen to secure Barella’s future with Calciomercato claiming he is a name “pinned to their agenda”. Their idea is to “lock up” Barella even though his deal does not expire until 2024.
Inter are willing to increase his salary from €2.5m to over €4m. While they are also willing to promise him the captain’s armband when Samir Handanovic leaves next summer.
A May report put the 24-year-old’s price tag around the £70m mark, but another progressive season will see that price rise.
