Leeds and Liverpool ‘genuine contenders’ for exciting late signing – report
A report has claimed both Leeds and Liverpool are ‘genuine contenders’ to make a late summer move for impressive young attacker Mikkel Damsgaard.
Damsgaard joined Italian side Sampdoria less than a year ago for an approximate £6m fee. But in the time since then his stock has risen considerably. He impressed in his debut season in Serie A and more notably at this summer’s European Championships.
He scored two goals for Denmark, including that bullet free-kick in the semi-final against England, and also assisted another.
Interest has risen from the Premier League – and this seems to have been significant interest.
Tottenham, Aston Villa, Leeds and Liverpool have all been linked with a move. But now it is the Whites and the Reds who are in contention.
That’s according to La Repubblica, as cited by Sports Lens. They report both sides are in the race to sign him before the window closes.

He has three years left on his current contract, so Sampdoria have slapped a hefty price tag on the 21-year-old. The desired fee has previously been estimated as €35m. But Calciomeracto have said €30m should do the trick.
Marcelo Bielsa’s side could be better positioned currently to get a deal done. It has been on the table a number of weeks for them and they can offer first team football.
They have been linked with a move for a number of attackers too. These include a goalscoring winger and an impressive former Barnsley striker.
In comparison, Jurgen Klopp seems to have completed his business for the summer. That’s what a recent report claimed.
The priority of the transfer window for Liverpool has been securing new deals with their current stars. Although Damsgaard is a player they’re supposedly watching for the future.
And if Leeds make a move that could spring them into action to avoid missing out.
Leeds looking to the future
Meanwhile, Leeds have completed a deal to sign a Norwegian centre-half who has been compared to Liverpool ace Virgil van Dijk.
The Whites have overseen a relatively quiet transfer window thus far. Jack Harrison signed on a permanent deal after several successful loan spells, while Junior Firpo was drafted in to replace Ezgjan Alioski at left-back.
Kristoffer Klaesson was signed to provide back-up to Illan Meslier between the sticks, but beyond that, the club have made do with safeguarding their future.
In that same vein, the club have now announced they have completed a deal to sign Celtic defender Leo Hjelde for an undisclosed fee.
Hjelde, 18, who will initially join up with Leeds’ Under-23s squad, has agreed a four-year contract at Elland Road and is the club’s seventh summer signing.
